I love wireless thermometers! Very useful for smoking meats. But I've come to the conclusion that a WiFi unit is considerably more useful than bluetooth alone.

I'll do 12-14 hour brisket cooks and I'm not home for a lot of that. If you only have bluetooth, you aren't getting updates when you get out of range. WiFi addresses this. I see the WiFi units often run an extra $10 or more, but worth it IMO.

The IP65 water resistance rating is nice. I've lost bluetooth thermometers due to water and rust.

But, I am still a cheapskate. My solution is to keep the main unit in a ziploc bag, with only the probes coming out. That one has lasted quite a while.

These are nice in that they give 2 temperature readings. They give the ambient cooking temperature and internal meat temperature.

That needs both temp probes right? I thought one probe can provide both internal and ambient readings

Do you own the 2 in 1 thermometer spike? If you do, curious on your experiences.

I compared the spike ambient with the dual thermometer style, and the spike ambient temperature was wildly different.

Do you have any recommendations for an affordable wifi unit that's actually accurate? I have the unit in this deal, but it won't even reach my office... Looked into ThermoPro's wireless version, but it's nowhere close to $10 more than this... More like $100-200 more than this. I've tried other no-name brands and found them to be off by 10 degrees or more...

Agree 100%, and will add this - I find a BT thermometer highly annoying because as I'm walking around the house, outside, etc. every time I go in or out of range my phone buzzes that it has disconnected/reconnected from the thermometer.

Got excited for a second thinking the probes themselves were wireless at first glance (the SD crop of that pic got me. LOL). I actually already have this thermometer...works well. I got it cheap on amazon and planned on using it until I decided on a higher end thermometer but really this works fine and I haven't yet justified spending the extra money on a different one.

Would recommend either a 2 part set with transmitter&receiver, or a wifi version over bluetooth. With a 2 part set you can just put the receiver on a table inside somewhere in range, and still be alerted when a temp alarm goes off. Depending on bluetooth signal to your phone usually ends up with a good number of connection issues if you have any kind of distance to your BBQ from inside.

Just can't find a reason using a wireless thermomter, unless you leave it in the meat while cooking and you are away from it. Use a regular one to check the meat when it is about time and turn off the burner while done. You can probably get a free one in US.

Annoying how they call these "wireless" when "wires"(even though they try to hide them in their pics" are here. The Wireless rule should be: No wires, nothing from probe to temp unit. Shouldn't have to call those "Truly" wireless, "We're not lying" wireless, etc.

Typical smokers are too thick for any wireless signal to penetrate effectively so the wireless transmitter has to sit outside in this display unit.
